Photobooks from the collection of the Sloane Art Library will be on display during a free public lecture on Thursday, Oct. 30.

A panel of artists and collectors will discuss the popularity of photobooks, spurred by new and better tools for creating print-on-demand books and digital editions. The panel includes Larissa Leclair, independent photography writer and founder of the Indie Photobook Library; Taj Forer, photographer, educator, and co-founder of the photography publisher Daylight; and Paul Soulellis, artist, instructor at the Rhode Island School of Design, and founder of the Library of the Printed Web.

The panel will explore the opportunities and economics of photobook publishing, offer advice for artists considering self-publishing or working with a publisher, and guide collectors where to look for the best new photobooks on the market today.

Art Librarian Heather Gendron says this is a new collecting emphasis for the Sloane Art Library, which holds photobooks from around the globe. The photobooks are part of a growing collection of artists’ books, or works of art created as books.

Co-sponsored by the Sloane Art Library, the Art Department, and the Ackland Art Museum.
