Summary: This book is deliberately printed as a “trade book,” a book intended for poets and their text. With black and white printing of photographs on rough paper, the images are rendered in an edgy and contrasty style meant to be in tune with the subject matter.
These photographs were made in response to the ground beneath and the air above a windy, dusty, clay field in northern New Mexico. A group of turkey vultures inhabit and animate the air with their continuous gliding circles, arcs, and dives. The warm air currents are their sources and the dust trails are their traces.
